Hermès Oslo: A shared passion for detail

Hermès Oslo: A shared passion for detail

Elegant cherry wood. Superior material qualities. Premium technical engineering services. The new Hermès store in Oslo's luxury shopping street – Nedre Slottstate – perfectly represents the values of the traditional French company.

Hermès initially started in Oslo with a shop-in-shop in the steen & strøm department store, but in the end of 2017 the luxury label moved to its new premises on the opposite side of the street in a listed building from the early 20th century. After an extensive renovation of the 190 m² sales area, the new interior was implemented with a design created by the Parisian architect office RDAI. Hoffmann Interior was entrusted with the task of technical engineering and manufacturing the high-quality shop fittings for this project.

Like a Puzzle

4hermesTop priority was given to a precision fit. Thomas Lesche, project manager at Hoffmann Interior reports: “Detailed preparatory work was vital, particularly for the manufacture of the niche furniture. The preparation of an appropriate load-bearing substructure that provided space for the electrical cabling was also part of the furniture production.” This pre-installation was then integrated into the shell structure, at which time the dry build and paintwork trades were able to arrange all the necessary steps, such as panelling and plastering. “The final step was to integrate the furniture from our production into the substructures – this was like fitting puzzle pieces together due to the precise preparatory work!” adds Thomas Lesche with a twinkle in his eye.

Cooperation since 2015

Hoffmann Interior has been able to demonstrate its design expertise in numerous projects since embarking on the cooperation with Hermès in 2015. The cube-shaped silk showcases in particular represent a special challenge. They are an integral part of the Hermès store design, but are used in a modified form for every new project. Technical engineer Alexander Scheffer explains: “The showcases in turn consist of four separate presentation cubes and a glass cover that are interconnected by a cross-shaped central element. This is an immense challenge particularly for the statics of the furniture. Combined with the Dialock security technology, the lighting and the appropriate ventilation system, this makes every showcase a unique magic cube!”

A shared passion for detail

Both companies share a passion for detail. We received a letter from Hermès after the completion of the project with the following lines: “You took part in the project Hermès Oslo completed in December 2017. Hermès is satisfied with the result which carries the values to which is hold dear: singularity, quality, and perenniality.”
