HORST Bahrenfeld is the first do-it-yourself store of its kind that doesn't want to be a hardware store – because it does a lot of other things. Its reward: the “Store of the Year 2019” Award in the “Home/Living” category from the German Retail Association.
HORST enlisted the experts at Hoffmann Ladenbau to realise the Hamburg store. The cooperation proved to be particularly successful because the “Store of the Year” awards jury praised the “intuitive and sustainable store design”, amongst other things. Hoffmann Ladenbau further developed and implemented this between March and October 2018 based on the plans of the Hamburg-based design studio “design for human nature”.
Hoffmann Ladenbau's remit was, amongst other things, to produce the complete shopfittings for the 792 square metre store – including multiple shelves, presentation modules, the checkout and a service point. The experts at Hoffmann Ladenbau also realised a balcony with floor covering, areas for workshops and a sound-insulated workshop for cutting, printing and engraving wood during the project period. “The design concept is just like the staff: natural and relaxed”, explains Rüdiger Fleige, Project Manager at Hoffmann Ladenbau. The main material used was WISA-spruce – high-quality and versatile Finnish plywood panels.
A true speciality of HORST's concept: its target group are mainly tenants and owners of houses or apartments who want to extend or decorate their home themselves. That's why the HOme Renovation STore – or HORST for short – describes itself as “the corner shop for all creative ideas for your home”. The product range is reduced to the essentials so that customers do not have to spend a long time searching for items and, at the same time, it is presented in a clearly arranged, structured and inviting manner. The friendly staff and unusual services, such as transport bicycles, free hire equipment and regular workshops, provide an extra element of inspiration.
The development of the innovative concept and the dedication over the past few months have paid off. The HORST team is delighted with the consistently positive media response since the opening of the store: “We are getting great reports about our shop – even from the “Handelsblatt” and “Lebensmittelzeitung” newspapers.
